Doodle Character Illustrations

Doodle Character Illustrations are a form of vector art that involves drawing characters in a simple, often exaggerated style. The goal is not to pinpoint illustration realism but to capture characteristics and personality traits through iconic images. Think of it as a caricature for Animation.
These Illustrations usually accompany a Storyboard or Animatic to indicate a character’s appearance through an animation.
Depending on how much information is needed, some may only need the face, while others may include front and back views.
Animators draw these to test ideas for different poses, expressions, and clothing/hairstyles before committing to keyframes in the Animation Process. These types of drawings can be helpful for Animatics, Storyboards, and testing out different poses.
Doodle Character Illustrations are commonly used in 2D Animation. They can be beneficial and easy to create and allow Animators and Artists (and clients) to aim at what the final product will look like before committing time and resources to create a fully rendered scene.
